For U.S. Healthcare Professionals Only
ELIGARD is a controlled-release formulation of leuprolide acetate. When you mix
ELIGARD, you are combining the drug with a special polymeric delivery system that
lets the leuprolide acetate be released continuously for the prescribed dosing period.
Additionally, ELIGARD is to be delivered by subcutaneous injection rather than by
intramuscular injection.1
ELIGARD is supplied in two separate sterile syringes. ELIGARD must be stored in
refrigeration at 36° F to 46° F (2° C to 8° C). Both syringes should
be allowed to reach room temperature, then thoroughly mixed to obtain a uniform
suspension. Once mixed, ELIGARD must be administered within 30 minutes or discarded.1
Please note: prior to mixing, ELIGARD can remain unrefrigerated
for up to 5 days. Please remember that this includes shipment time (standard shipping is 2
days). Product can be re-refrigerated if not mixed. Product must be discarded if
unrefrigerated for more than 5 total days.1
Check the number of patients you have scheduled for treatment
and remove enough ELIGARD from the refrigerator in the morning so that it is ready
for use during the day. Any doses not used can be returned safely to the refrigerator
as long it has not exceeded the 5-day limit.1 Please remember that
in order to administer ELIGARD properly the active ingredient and the delivery system
must be combined just prior to injection.1
