Understanding Advanced Prostate Cancer

One of the best things you can do for yourself is exactly what you are doing now—learning all you can about advanced prostate cancer. Ask your doctor or nurse questions, read, share your experience with someone you trust, or join a support group. All these things could make a positive difference.

You Are Not Alone

The American Cancer Society estimates that 234,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the US during 2006. Approximately 27,000 will die from the disease. One in every six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives. More than 65% of all prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over 65.

Advanced prostate cancer often occurs in older men, and it sometimes grows very slowly.
